  1. Hi Maria, I'm new to your blog and it's gorgeous! I don't know how you find the time to make so many beautiful things. I was looking for an update on your lovely cotton stripy blanket - I came to your projects page via your post "Weekend Bits" but can't see the finished blanket. Do you have any pics? Also wondering how you found the cotton? I have only ever used Sirdar Snuggly or more recently Stylecraft Special DK. Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Shivers, thanks for the lovely comment! The blanket is still in progress... I know, it's been a long time in the works! You can see an updated picture of it (plus one you've already seen) in this post:

I'm using King Cole Cottonsoft, and I really like it - it's ever so soft. The cotton gives a smoother feel than you get with something like Stylecraft Special DK (which I used on my Waterlily blanket) so it depends what feel you want, depending on the project you're working on. I'm a big fan of Stylecraft Special - it feels nice and the price is good!
I am trying to make progress and get the blanket finished, so keep your eyes peeled (although it might be another month or so, it's a big blanket!)
      Thanks for visiting!

    2. Thanks for the quick reply! It really is stunning. I have a throw for a double bed in progress and it will be years before it's finished so I absolutely understand! I will have a go at something similar to your stripes and give King Cole Cottonsoft a go but maybe for a baby blanket so that I don't have to wait too long to finish it :) Good luck and looking forward to seeing your finished article x

    1. Hi Marcelle. Which blanket do you mean? If you click on the image it will take you to the appropriate blog post - the information might be there. If not, please comment on that post so I know which blanket and I'll see if I can count my beginning chains. Many thanks, Maria

    1. Hi - which blanket are you referring to? The heart baby blanket?

  4. For the Beginnings Baby Blanket (hearts) how large are the squares supposed come out to be? Mine are like 7" x8" which seems large to me. You had said on page that you were shooting for 35 squares for your blanket, that would be a HUGH blanket. I am assuming your blocks are smaller? Followed link you gave on the above page. Would you be so kind as to post YOUR pattern as I am assuming you made some adjustments to the original pattern. I am a bit of a newbie and right now, I just follow patterns. :-) Thank you. I LOVE this blanket and would like to make it for my grandchild. You did a beautiful job.

    1. Hi Susie - my squares are approximately 5" x 5" (14cm x 14cm) It will depend on your tension when crocheting - it sounds like you have a loose tension, whereas I have a tight tension. I would suggest using a smaller crochet hook to make your squares/rectangles smaller. It doesn't really matter if they are rectangles rather than squares - it will still work. Another suggestion is to make less squares/rectangles, if you want to stick to the same crochet hook. I didn't change the pattern other than with the amendments I explain in this post:

I hope this helps - good luck! Maria
